2020 Mid-Season Invitation Cancelled

RIOT Games have decided to cancel 2020 Mid-Season Invitational due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and associated with it restrictions to travel and large social gatherings. Instead, the company’s resources will be dedicated to planning for 2020 League of Legends World Championship.

MSI 2020 was initially planned to take place in May, however last month RIOT Games decided to reschedule the event for July 3rd-19th. Due to this, the company had to adjust the dates of the summer split. Now, however, the summer competition will revert to original schedule.

Traditionally, the results of MSI affect the seeding at World Championship, with better performing regions receiving additional slots at the event. Due to the cancelation of Mid-Season Invitational, RIOT Games were able to determine the regional seed distribution ahead of time. It looks as follows:

  • 4 teams each: LPL (China), LEC (Europe)
  • 3 teams each: LCK (Korea), LCS (North America)
  • 2 teams each: PCS (Southeast Asia), VCS (Vietnam)
  • 1 team each: CBLOL (Brazil), TCL (Turkey), LLA (Latin America), OPL (Oceania), LCL (CIS)

Additional information on 2020 World Championship will be revealed at a later date. Besides that, RIOT Games are looking into organizing alternative events and activities.
