OG are invited to The Summit 8, despite Virtus.pro being active champions of the tournament

Beyond the Summit announced the one and only direct invite to The Summit 8 MinorOG will be heading to Los Angeles to join King’s Cup: America champion OpTic Gamimg and other 6 teams that will have to make it through the regional qualifiers in a fight for a $300,000 prize pool.

The community was surprised by this decision since the active champions of The SummitVirtus.pro – saved their roster and recently won ESL One Hamburg Major. Last summer VP managed to win Summit 7 even though they wanted to complete a self-proclaimed challenge – they tried to not pick any hero twice. They managed to make it all the way to the 5th map of the grand finals versus Team Secret following this rule, but at the end there were just too little heroes in the pool and VP had to break the rule and managed to win the series with the score of 3-2.

David ”LD” Gorman from Beyond The Summit explained the decision by the fact that VP management told him at TI that the team won’t participate in any minors next season, even if they are invited. VP’s General Manager Roman Dvoryankin commented on the situation:

Despite this unfortunate misunderstanding, both sides have no issues with each other and VP will participate in the regional qualifiers with the goal to win The Summit third time in a row.

Dota Summit 8 minor tournament will be held on December 13-17 in Los Angeles, California. Eight teams will fight for a $300,000 prize pool and 300 qualifier points.
