PaiN Gaming Qualified for The International 2018
PaiN Gaming defeated SG e-sports with the 3-2 score in the grand finals of the closed qualifiers for The International 2018, securing the only ticket for TI for South America.
In the group stage, which was held in a round-robin format, PaiN Gaming and SG e-sports shared the first place – both teams finished with the 4-1 score. In the playoffs Thunder Predator defeated paiN in the semifinals and SG in the winners’ finals, but later the team got disqualified – its carry player Juan "Atun" Ochoa was found guilty of using macros, so the whole bracket was replayed. In the winners’ finals paiN outplayed SG 2-1, dropping them to the lower bracket, where they managed to defeat Torus 2-0. In the grand finals all five maps were played, but ultimately the series concluded in favor of PaiN with the 3-2 score.
