Serral Defeats SpeCial in the Finals of 2019 WCS Spring
The reigning StarCraft II world champion Joona "Serral" Sotala has defeated the Mexican player Juan Carlos "SpeCial" Tena Lopez in the grand finals of 2019 WCS Spring, claiming $20,000 in prize money and qualifying for WCS Global Finals.
The event took place in Kyiv, Ukraine, with the final playoffs stage being held on May 18th – 19th. It featured a single-elimination playoffs bracket for 24 players, where all regular matches were best-of-five and the grand finals was best-of-seven. Serral outplayed Lambo (3-1), TIME (3-1) and Reynor (3-0) on his way to the grand finals. In the final series Serral managed to win four maps in a row.
Serral has become the first non-Korean player to qualify for 2019 WCS Global Finals. Earlier Eo "soO" Yoon Soo qualified to the finals through IEM Season XIII – Katowice, while Cho "Maru" Seong Ju emerged victorious at 2019 Global StarCraft II League Season 1: Code S.
